Who we are

Maren is operated by Present Future Labs Inc., a company incorporated in British Columbia, Canada. When this policy says "we," "us," or "our," it means Present Future Labs Inc. Our service is intended for users who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.

Information we collect

We collect the following categories of information when you use Maren:

  • Information you provide — your name, email address, age, and race goals when you create an account and set up your profile.
  • Fitness data from connected devices — if you connect a wearable device (such as a Garmin watch) or Apple HealthKit, we receive workout metrics such as heart rate, pace, distance, cadence, and elevation. You choose which devices to connect, and you can disconnect them at any time.
  • Data we derive — we generate readiness assessments, workout classifications, and training load analysis from your fitness data using deterministic algorithms on our servers.
  • Coaching conversations — the messages exchanged between you and Maren, including post-workout analyses and coaching check-ins.
  • Technical and account data — device identifiers for push notifications, subscription status, and records of the consents you provide.

How we use your information

  • To provide personalized coaching and post-workout analysis
  • To assess your training readiness
  • To manage your subscription
  • To send service communications, including coaching check-ins and push notifications
  • To improve and maintain the service
  • To comply with legal obligations

AI coaching and your data

Maren uses artificial intelligence to generate coaching responses based on your workout data and conversation history. When generating coaching, we take steps to minimize personal information shared with our AI service provider.

Our AI provider's commercial terms prohibit them from using the inputs we send or the outputs they generate to train their models.

AI-generated coaching has limitations and may not always be accurate. It is not a substitute for professional advice. See our Terms of Service for important health disclaimers.

Service providers

We use third-party service providers to operate Maren. Each operates under agreements requiring them to protect your data. These providers fall into the following categories:

  • Cloud infrastructure and database hosting
  • AI service provider (coaching generation)
  • Payment and subscription management
  • Wearable device integrations (at your direction)
  • Push notification delivery
  • Error monitoring

Data sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We do not use health or fitness data for advertising. We do not share your data with third parties for their marketing purposes.

We share data only with the service providers described above as necessary to operate the service, or where required by law.

Legal basis for processing

We process your personal data on the following legal bases:

  • Your consent — for the collection and processing of fitness and health data.
  • Performance of our contract with you — to provide the coaching service you have subscribed to.
  • Our legitimate interests — to improve the service and maintain security, where those interests are not overridden by your rights.
  • Legal obligations — to maintain consent records and respond to lawful requests.

International transfers

Present Future Labs Inc. is based in Canada. Some of our service providers operate in the United States. By using Maren, your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States or other jurisdictions where data protection laws may differ from those in your location. Where required by applicable law, we use appropriate safeguards for international data transfers.

Data retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. When you delete your account, we remove your personal data without unreasonable delay.

Some records, such as consent records, may be retained longer where necessary to comply with legal obligations.

Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access and download — you can download a copy of your data from the Privacy & Data section of your account settings.
  • Correction — you can update your profile information in your account settings.
  • Deletion — you can delete your account and all associated data from the Privacy & Data section of your account settings.
  • Data portability — your data download is provided in a structured, machine-readable format.

To exercise any of these rights, use the controls in your account settings or contact privacy@withmaren.com. If you believe we have not adequately addressed your concern, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Cookies and analytics

On our website, we use a first-party cookie to remember your analytics preference. If you consent to analytics, third-party analytics services may set additional cookies for session tracking. No analytics data is collected without your consent.

We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. If your browser sends a GPC signal, non-essential cookies are automatically rejected.

Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and regular security reviews. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your data.
